Carer 'smeared excrement' on face of elderly dementia patient

A carer smeared excrement on the face of a mentally incapacitated man aged in his 90s, a court has heard.

Barbara Kowalska, 34, denies losing her temper with Albert Inggall at Donnington Care Home in Berkshire.

Reading Crown Court heard Mr Inggall, who has dementia, soiled himself while infected with MRSA in August 2012.

Ms Kowalska, of London Road, Newbury, denies neglect and told the court her colleagues made up the accusations.
'No compassion'

The court heard Ms Kowalska was the on-duty nurse at the private care home at the time and had responsibility for 29 elderly and frail patients.

Other members of staff said she shouted at Mr Inggall and called him "dirty" before wiping the waste on his nose.

In the witness box Ms Kowalska denied this and said her colleagues had made these claims up.

She also denies telling her manager via an interpreter: "I'm sorry, I have no compassion. I don't care if you report me."

The trial continues.
