Employers sign up to Social Care Commitment

Adult social care employers are already signing up to the Social Care Commitment which has been launched to help improve care and support in the sector.

Employers and employees are being encouraged to sign up online to seven clear commitments designed to help develop the skills and knowledge of the workforce. They focus on real workplace issues including effective communication, upholding dignity and protecting privacy.

Care and Support Minister Norman Lamb, said: "It is really important for people to have reliable information about what good care looks like so they can make the right choices about the care they want. This commitment from employers and staff will help foster a more open, transparent system that leaves bad care with nowhere to hide and will lead to better standards across the board.

“It is encouraging to see how many employers have already signed up to this commitment and that they can see how this will benefit their own organisations as well as driving improvement in the care and support sector.”

The commitment’s development has been led by Skills for Care working with employers, employees, individual employers, personal assistants and people who need care and support to make sure the commitment is fit for purpose and can be easily embedded into sector workforces.

Sharon Allen Skills for Care CEO added: “The great strength of this commitment is that it has been developed by the sector for the sector, so I’m not surprised that so many frontline employers have already signed up.

“But it is so much more than a paper commitment as employers and their employees can use a range of tasks, backed by user friendly resources, to help them continually think about how to improve the services they offer.”

The commitment is strongly supported by sector leaders including the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
