New free learning and development materials are now available to make sure that the adult social care workforce is ready to deliver the changes required by the Care Act 2014.
The materials have been produced by Skills for Care and the National Skills Academy for Social Care, in partnership with The College of Social Work, and are designed to be an easy to use introduction to the changes brought about by the Act.
They are intended to be used as a first step towards building a competent workforce who can effectively implement the Act by providing information and learning about the changes.
Topic areas in the materials cover all the key parts of the Act including:
Introduction and overview of the Act
Information and advice
First contact and identifying needs
Charging and financial assessment
Person centred care and support planning
Transition to adulthood
Partnerships, cooperation and integration
The materials include audio presentations, specialist briefings, workbooks, factsheets and ‘talking head’ videos. Instead of an ‘off the peg’ training pack, they are designed to be adapted and used by leaders, managers, self-directed learners and learning and development professionals in the sector using their professional judgement.
There is also a guide to help navigate around the materials explaining how to use them and what materials are included to help select the ones which suit your purpose.
Skills for Care and National Skills Academy CEO Sharon Allen said: “The Care Act will bring in once in a generation changes to the way services are delivered, so it was critical we offered these free materials now so the workforce will be ready next April.
“The real strength of these materials is that they were created in partnership with the College of Social Work who contributed their expertise at every stage of the process.”
Annie Hudson, Chief Executive of The College of Social Work, said: “We welcome the publication of the materials and were pleased to help to make sure that social workers contributed to their development.
“These materials are for the whole social care workforce and will be complemented by the specific social work materials that we are currently developing – the CPD curriculum guide and the capability statements linked to the Professional Capabilities Framework.”
