Leading training provider celebrates year of contract success and bumper recruitment
One of the UK’s leading training providers, First Response Training and Consultancy Services Limited, is celebrating an extremely successful year, during which they have continued to defy the economic downturn to secure more prestigious contract awards and create further job opportunities across the UK.

The first aid and health and safety training company has had its most successful year yet for contracts, in terms of overall value, and has recruited many new members to its team both locally at its head office in Worcestershire and in various regions across the country. The success of the recent recruitment drive, as well as the contract bids, is key as First Response continues to evolve and expand its services. They have recently progressed to become a training solutions provider, adding e-learning courses, distance learning manuals, webinar training sessions and blended learning options to their service portfolio, in addition to traditional face-to-face, classroom-based training. The new range of flexible learning options means that First Response is well-placed to help businesses both big and small as they seek to find new and more economical ways of training their staff.

The successful business was first established in 1997 by local entrepreneur, and now Chief Executive, Darren Eden. It has steadily grown over the years to extend its services to all regions of the UK and now employs 90 people, including 50 full-time trainers who are regionally based, and around 20 staff based at their head office and living locally in Worcestershire. First Response is part of a group of companies, St Catherine’s Holdings Limited, and its success has been mirrored by all brands within the group, which now employs a total of 125 people.

First Response began the year with the welcome news that they had successfully gained approved status on the Skill’s Funding Agency’s Register of Training Organisations, and this was soon followed by further contract awards from Devon County Council and Newcastle City Council. As 2012 progressed, the positive news continued for the provider as they were also awarded extensions to their current contracts with Staffordshire County Council, Surrey County Council and the Met Office, a contract which they have now held for several years. In the latter part of the year, despite a decline in the number of contract tenders being published, First Response recorded more successes with Gateshead Council, Wandsworth Adult Social Services, North Yorkshire County Council and the University of Wolverhampton. Most recently, they secured the opportunity to provide some DSE Assessor training for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the national independent watchdog for workplace health and safety.

Perhaps their greatest success of the year came when they secured a prestigious contract to deliver first aid training for the North West Region Police Forces. First Response have held a contract with Greater Manchester Police (GMP), who are the second largest police force in the country, since April 2006. However, this recent contract award not only means that they have retained this long-standing contract but that the provision has been extended to include additional courses and incorporate police forces in Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside and North Wales. The First Response team have already begun work on this large volume contract, taking bookings from GMP, Lancashire Police and Merseyside Police.

Darren Eden says that First Response are aiming to replicate this success record during 2013 and are looking forward to many more exciting new developments ahead: “We’ve had an exceptional year for 2012-13 so far and we are very pleased with what we have achieved as a business, especially in these uncertain times when many organisations are struggling.
