In the wake of many negative media reports about the state of care services in the UK, the NASHiCS Safety in Care Awards 2012 celebrated excellence in care health and safety.
The awards scheme was established in order to recognise and reward the dedication and excellent work of health and safety professionals within the care sector. It is now in its second year, with the 2012 awards dinner having taken place on Wednesday 27th June.
Chris Jackson, National Chair of NASHiCS (the National Association for Safety and Health in Care Services) has said that he is confident that standards of health and safety are improving across the sector and believes that the recent awards demonstrated this.
The organisation is extremely conscious of the poor reputation that the health and social care sector has developed following recent headlines, and they are pleased that their awards scheme has offered a more positive perspective of care services in the UK.
Mr Jackson commented: “Recently, it seems that all headlines relating to the social care sector are damning. This makes the NASHiCS Safety in Care Awards scheme so very important for our sector. It highlights the fantastic work that is being done across the UK and gives all care health and safety professionals a reason and opportunity to celebrate and feel proud of the work they do. The standard of entries for this year’s awards was simply outstanding and my sincere congratulations go to the deserved winners, and also the shortlisted finalists.”
NASHiCS are pleased to report that the awards have received an enthusiastic response from the health and social care sector. The event has become an integral feature of the annual NASHiCS National Learning and Development Forum and there were many notable winners from a strong and extensive list of worthy nominations.
Presentations at the dinner were made by Karen McDonnell, Vice President of IOSH, and the accolades bestowed included the Company or Individual of the Year Award, Learning and Training Award and the Best Practice Award.
Mr Jackson added: “The NASHICS Safety in Care Awards dinner was just one of the fantastic elements of our 2012 National Learning and Development Forum. This year’s event proved another great success. Our action-packed programme of guest speakers, panel discussions, breakout sessions and exhibition once more provided the latest information, skills, advice and perspectives to enable delegates to rise above the pressures of scrutiny and continue to deliver excellence in their field.”
