Refreshed Management Induction Standards launched at Skills for Care national conference

Refreshed Management Induction Standards were today launched at Skills for Care’s national conference in Manchester.

 

In addition to a free web edition of the basic standards, Becoming the new manager is a workbook with additional guidance that sets out very clearly what a new manager needs to know, understand and be able to do in their new roles. The workbook also offers detailed guidance on how to organise a new manager’s induction.

 

The ‘refresh’ of the original 2008 Manager Induction Standards brings them up to date with increased personalisation in social care and with new qualifications, and is the result of extensive consultation across the sector. Skills for Care is confident that those who commission, regulate or inspect services will expect new managers and their employers to make full use of the refreshed standards.

 

More than 250 delegates at the conference also heard from Glen Mason who outlined the Department of Health’s view of workforce development issues in the expanding adult social care sector.

 

The keynote address was delivered by Peter Hay, the President of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, who addressed the conference theme of the value of workforce development in tough times.

 

Delegates also took part in a series of break out sessions designed to support workforce development in their organisations, and highlight what support Skills for Care can give to employers.
