Following on the success of previous annual activity challenges for the care sector, ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ and ‘Music in the Air’, the National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People is focusing on the fun of food for 2011.
“Mealtimes and tea times are key parts of everyday life in care homes, but we don’t always make the most of the social and activity opportunities that they can offer residents,” says Sally Knocker at NAPA. “There are so many ways in which older people can enjoy growing, preparing and eating different food, yet it is easy to get very task orientated and health and safety concerns can sometimes get in the way.”
The Annual Challenge will take place during the whole month of June this year rather than a selected week.
The simple application form asks for examples of ways in you have created food related activities for individuals and groups and how you have changed normal routines into enjoyable experiences for everyone.
Five prize winners will be selected with a £2000 first prize and a range of other prizes for the runners up. All the winners will be invited to a Gala Celebration in London in early September – a day to remember! Thanks to our main sponsor Colten Care for making this annual challenge possible.
