Two South Shields carers have appeared in court charged with the ill treatment of care home residents after a probe into the death of an 80-year-old woman.
Daphne Joseph, 46, appeared before South Tyneside magistrates charged with the ill treatment of Joyce Wordingham at St Michael's View home in 2010.
In a separate hearing at the court, Sean Abbott, 21, appeared accused of seven counts of assault on residents.
Both were granted bail at the hearings on Friday.
Mrs Wordingham's died in February 2010 at the South Shields home, which is owned and operated by Southern Cross Healthcare.
Ms Joseph of Graham Street, South Shields, is also charged with neglecting Mrs Wordingham.
Mr Abbott, 21, of Gainsborough Avenue, South Shields, is accused of assault on four other residents at the home.
